The introduction of liver into the world of carp fishing baits can definitely be attributed to the British. Throughout my career as a self maker I think that the ingredients that have made their mark in the development of carp fishing products and baits are undoubtedly the digests of animal origin, better known as liquid food: personally, Liver was love at first sniff.
I well remember when, in the 1990s, I was in the throes of making my first birdfood mixes and managed to get hold of a bag of Rod Hutchinson liver-based ready mix - a truly exceptional product for the time (when we were all immature in self-made). It was from that day that my interest in liver-flavoured Rod Hutchinson was born (although I actually had to put it aside at first to finish some of my research on basic flours). Subsequently, however, I set myself the goal of investigating the best way to use liver as an ingredient. At first, the use of some rudimentary forms of liver, such as whipped chicken livers, did not yield the desired results, but with time and a little research in the pet food world, I achieved my goals.
Digests of meat, liver and other slaughter by-products have long been used in the pet food world to create appetisers for feed mixes. In the 1990s, although I was not yet working with any company in the industry at the time, I managed to recover a few samples of these phantom products thanks to my knowledge.
Some ingredients just didn't lend themselves to the making of my doughs, others were better, but still not what I was looking for. At the same time, a famous British company introduced a liver digest onto the market, although it was not declared as such: I tried to learn their secret. After several attempts, I learnt that it was a mixture and managed to replicate it: I had found my liver liquid.
I remember very well when I tried, with Molino Zombini, to bring these products onto the market, but unfortunately the time was not yet ripe: Italian self-made was still too focused on the use of flavourings. The years went by and, while I dedicated myself to the development of other types of liquid digest, some well-known personalities in the carpfishing environment began to popularise recipes with liquid food as the main ingredient. Obviously, the successes of these new types of bait began to echo: it was time to have our say and start marketing our liver liquid, a product that is still produced according to our original recipe.
Now, like all liquid foods, our liver liquid can be included in your mixes at a dosage of on average 50ml per kg of dry mix, but you can go as high as 70ml because we are talking about a 100 per cent natural product. Furthermore, you can combine it with flavourings according to your preferences. Our liver liquid, apart from being a soluble protein and amino acid supplement, will give your baits a really important aromatic and taste imprint: we have no doubt in saying that you will not miss the catches!
